Last fall, Stephen Crowbert defended his territory from a juvenile Cooper’s Hawk who thought thought she would sample some African Pied Crow but was stymied by the enclosure. (Coops mainly eat other birds which is why if you have a bird feeder you probably also have a resident Coop. Sorry about that. As hawks go, they’re high-strung but not stupid.) Today she was back, although apparently older and wiser. Rather than pacing on the roof of Stephen and Gwen’s home, she perched up in the tree above. G&S gave a few warning cries just to make sure everyone understood the rules but were relatively calm as Mlle. Coop had a nice preen over their heads. She mainly had her back to the house but did turn around a couple of times to glare at my feeble attempts to take her photo.
