Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums out there, avian and otherwise. And congratulations to all the dads out there who only have to cover kids, housework, flower-and-chocolate procurement, etc. for a few more hours. Stephen Crowbert did his part today, guarding the eggs while Gwen took frequent breaks to enjoy the warm weather.
Male crows do not brood the eggs, hence Stephen’s respectful crouch. That was still too presumptuous for Gwen, who made it clear she disapproved of his technique. They had quite a squabble when she returned from one of her breaks and found him too close to the precious eggs. Sorry for the poor video quality but you’ll get the picture. Like so many fathers, Stephen learned the hard way not to argue with a mother-to-be.
